ATITHI GUPTA, HARANGAD SINGH AND VJ BALHARA SHOWED A CREATIVE MIX OF RANGES FOR SUMMER/RESORT 2011 AT LAKMÉ FASHION WEEK

ATHITHI GUPTA’S EARTHY LINE HAD A BEAUTIFUL NATURAL THEME FOR SUMMER/RESORT 2011

March 15, 2011, Mumbai: Shades of green, hues of brown, hints of sun yellow and the calm of nature inspired Atithi Gupta’s Summer/Resort 2011 collection called “Ella” at Lakmé Fashion Week. Playing with a medley of pleats, folds and twists in the fabrics, the asymmetric garments were sensuously functional.

Monotones that recreated the shades of earth like sand, mud, stone and grass moved gracefully on cotton, silk, organza, crepe and chiffon with a touch of drapes and gathers.

Stylishly designed shorts and trousers had petal folds, while pullovers and kimono silhouettes with open pleated bodices gave the summer dresses a new trend direction. Ruffled necklines were fussy but highlighted the feminine collection while embroidery was tastefully sprinkled like the morning dew on the ensembles.

Brown silk front draped kaftan, green pleated skirt, beige side cowl pleated mini, silver trellise work for yokes, beige rouched sheath, the salmon pink Capri jumpsuit with embroidered front back yoke and grey cowl bodice dress were some of the pretty creations ideal for the young stylish dresser.

Genteel, elegant and stylish, Atithi Gupta’s line was like a breath of fresh air on the ramp.

FASHION AND ELEGANCE CAME ALIVE ON THE CATWALK WITH HARANGAD SINGH’S SUMMER/RESORT 2011 COLLECTION

He called his collection “Madame Pavone” (meaning Peacock in French) and it was truly an elegant aristocratic line by Harangad Singh for Summer/Resort 12011 at Lakmé Fashion Week.

Harangad dreamt up creations that could float through hot sultry summer days with luxurious textiles draping the lady. It was fashion decadence at its best as pre-World War II nostalgia was recreated with vintage shades like sand, gold lemonade, pink, Tahitian red, sea blue and the perennial favourite black.

Silks and soft voiles were turned into feminine maxis, summer cardigans, and flapper dresses from the 1920s shifts. When it came to embellishments, Harangad turned to embroidery with fine net, chiffon, seed beads and crystals. Pleats, cowls and 3D drapes created excitement on the ensembles.

Opening the show with a fame red pin tuck long sleeve unlined coat over black sheath, the textured and constructed dress and the one shoulder crepe mini were the start of an elegant feminine look. Looped front dress, peach sheer blouse, electric blue back draped creation, several versions of the little black dress, one with a checkered metallic texture and the electric blue sheer flared sleeve chiffon cover over a black long tube were ideal evening wear.

For a relaxed but stylish entry, a selection from Madame Pavone’s collection by Harangad Singh will definitely be the apt choice for women of style.

VJ BALHARA’S RUSTIC SOPHISTICATION HAD THE PERFECT FUSION LOOK FOR SUMMER/RESORT 2011

VJ Balhara presented a striking collection for Summer/Resort 2011 at Lakmé Fashion Week with the quaint title “Rustic Sophistication”. Fusing creativity with the style of the aristocratic Zamindaar women from Haryana with large doses of European feminine elegance of the late 1950s and early 1960s; VJ designed swirling skirts that were reminiscent of the traditional Daaman of Haryana.

Using pure cotton with Chanderi, satin, cotton and linen as the base fabrics, shorts, draped pants, skirts, dresses, smocks, layered maxis, cropped jackets, tunics, and shrugs sailed down the ramp in quick succession. Block prints played a rustic symphony with cords, loops, potli buttons, gotta and Patti work which added to the Indo-West look of the collection.

The show opened with a diaphanous white tiered full circle floor length kurta and simple tailored bolero, followed by a mul bubble tunic. Vijay’s line was a good mix of the east and west styling as empire line smocks, cool summer pants, tunics with gathered hems, full pleated tents with tonal detailing, drop crotch linen churidars, flared mul blouses, gypsy dresses, paisley embroidered skirts and the final melon and taupe tiered circular Angarkha closed the show.

For the global jet setter who wants to make a dramatic entrance VJ Balhara’s “Rustic Sophistication” will create a memorable impression.
