Mumbai, January 19, 2011: Acting on its mission to develop fashion creativity and promote commerce, the Advisory Board members of Lakmé Fashion Week (LFW), the leading Fashion and trade event, met to select the Gen Next, Emerging, and Accessory Show Designers for the upcoming LFW Summer/Resort 2011. As compared to the first Summer/Resort season held in 2010, this upcoming Summer/Resort 2011 season has generated an incredible increase in applications across the Gen Next, Emerging, and Accessory designer categories; a testament to the value, significance, and reach of the platform. LFW Summer / Resort 2011 received 155 Gen Next designer applications marking a growth of 60 % percent; 71 Emerging designer applications recording a hike of 11% and 22 Accessory Designer applications witnessing a 62% increase as compared to the last season of Summer/Resort in March 2010
· This season also shows significant growth in international applications, with applications coming from 8 cities across the following countries: Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Canada, UK, France and UAE. This represents a 300% increase over the previous Summer/Resort season.
· Submissions came from 46 cities across the country and also London, Colombo, Karachi, Lahore, Ontario, Paris, Sharjah and Vancouver
The Lakmé Fashion Week Advisory Board comprises a panel of key stakeholders from the fashion fraternity such as educational institutions, buyers, media personalities and designers. The members present at the screening included Anamika Khanna, Designer; Dr. Darlie Koshy, Director General (Education & Training) of the Apparel Export Promotion Council; Sangita Kathiwada, Melange; Sujata Assomull Sippy, Harper’s Bazaar; Anil Chopra, CEO – Lakmé Lever; Ravi Krishnan, Managing Director-IMG South Asia and Senior Vice President-IMG; Sujal Shah, Vice President & Head of Fashion for IMG India.
To ensure that the high standards of excellence in designer participation is maintained, our esteemed board members selected 6 Gen Next, 7 Emerging Designers and 7 Accessory designers to showcase at LFW Summer/Resort 201. This season renowned stylist and designer Aki Narula is set to make a significant contribution to the future of fashion by mentoring and guiding the Gen Next applicants. The platform also welcomes veteran designer Rohit Bal as he joins the esteemed panel as an LFW Advisory Board member.
