SWAPNIL SHINDE AND TROY COSTA MADE STRONG FORMAL STYLE STATEMENTS AT LAKMÉ FASHION WEEK WINTER/FESTIVE 2010

SWAPNIL SHINDE ADDED DRAMA AND STYLE TO HIS EVENING WEAR COLLECTION

There was a beautiful love story behind Swapnil Shinde’s collection called “Dancer in the Dark” at Lakmé Fashion Week Winter/Festive 2010. It revolved around a courtesan lavni dancer, Chandrakala, the poet Rafael and a club owner Zidler. With romance and villainy underlining the look of the collection, Swapnil dipped into the 17th and 18th century styles of Europe but added on the Indian lavni dancers of Maharashtra clothing for impact.

The combination was an amazing line of flouncy skirts with ghungroos embroidery on shoulders, neck and waist line, structured or otherwise double breasted jackets, interesting draped sari style dresses, sexy pleated lavni pants, striking evening gowns and stunning festive pieces.

But this was a look that demanded fabrics that matched the grandeur of the styles so Swapnil worked with chiffon, satin, Lycra, net, velvet, faux leather, exclusive printed chiffons, tartan checks, wools and splashed them with zardozi and teamed the clothes with shoes and boots from Tip Top Point to add that quirky touch to the collection.

The colour choice had to be as outstanding with ivory and jet black playing around with lavender to blood red.

The silhouette was either full with canvas petticoats giving body to the creations with clinched waists and broad silver or black belts which made a great fashion statement or lean. Sheer net skirts, solid draped long line tunics and net gowns swirled over fitted sheaths.

Wide floppy collar jacket, long sleeve ruffled white dress, black strappy creations with crystals and sequins, some gorgeous black textured lamp shaped skirt ensembles with red crystals on bodice and one shoulder and crystal encrusted drop waist gown; completed the black and white story. Very controlled was the designing of the creations that were aimed at the evening wear market.

For the woman who wants the extraordinary in her wardrobes then this romantic line could also turn her into dancer in the dark or anywhere else in the world she wants to sway.

TROY COSTA’S RED CARPET LINE WAS A GREAT FASHION OFFERING FOR THE NEXT SEASON

Presenting a women’s wear line for the first time the “Helen of Troy” or HOT collection by Troy Costa for Lakmé Fashion Week Winter/Festive 2010 was a mix of the sultry, sexy, utterly glamorous evening gowns, cocktail dresses, some uber chic tailored suits and curvaceous knee length dresses.

The show opened with top singer Shaan serenading the audience with the theme from the movie Love Story that set the scene for the glamorous creations.

Selecting the most sumptuous fabrics that spoke a sensuous language, Troy went for taffeta, jersey, chiffon, duchess silk and satin and then moulded and individually draped them with touches of embroidery.

With silhouettes that were meant for those divas who stroll down the Red Carpet, the colours had to be just right and so Troy opted for magical magenta, intoxicating wine, sultry aubergine, lush golden beige and then added to the luxurious story some with lace topping it for sheer touches.

Women’s suits were stylishly quilted and followed the one button cut. The gowns were the beauties with twisted front drapes, pleating, tucks some in jersey with a will-power silhouette and many with one shoulder, a few short, sexy and stylish. Dramatic detailing came in the form of the gold external shoulder pads for jackets and a shimmering draped mini.

Necklines played an important part as they plunged dangerously and often appeared like fresh garlands.

Men’s wear comprised four options a black satin lapel-less suit a double lapel tuxedo jacket and one button lean short jackets.

The finale was the gorgeous couple – once again Shaan in a sharply cut suit with his pretty wife, Radhika in an elegant ivory gown.

When a collection is defined as “Prêt a’ couture” and is loaded with romantic sensuous shapes and touches; there is only one thing that a woman can do and that is wear it - when she wants to not only stop conversation but even the traffic.
