ANUPAMA DAYAL’S STYLISH BRIDAL LOOK WAS A GLAMOROUS COLLECTION
From collections that were ideal for resort and holiday wear in the past, Anupama Dayal moved into a more dazzling and glamorous realm of the Mughal era with the “Bronze Begum” for her Lakmé Fashion Week Winter/Fashion 2010 collection. It was the museum at Singapore of Mughal Jewels that set Anupama’s creative juices going when she dreamt up a great collection for the Indian bride.
Adding fabulous lush tones that ranged from the rustic ivory to the deep green, azure blues, shocking pink, red and ruby which were popular during the Mughal times; Anupama worked with conventional silhouettes like shararas, anarkali kurtas and lehengas but gave a slight contemporary touch to add to the stylish interest of the collection.
Adding a few saris, Anupama made sure that all the creations were designed from opulent fabrics like brocades, chiffons, georgettes, jacquards, sheer nets and luxurious silks. Blending the beauty of the Mughal Jewels with the crafts of Rajasthan, Anupama used zardozi, gotta and striking metallic embellishments along with the ikats and brocades.
The beautiful jaal motif of the saffron Banarasi brocade sari and the Parsi gara embroidery with gotta and mirror for another one set the look of the show. Lavishly embellished jama with chiffon pajama, anarkali kurta with Mughal flowers printed and sequined, the ambi motif adorned a lehenga, while shararas were in brocade gotta with high slit tunic. Sequin gold sheathed pants, crystal floretters on brocade blouse, a stunning red sari in net and georgette and the final red and tangerine bridal lehenga with pearl embroidery was a great end to a glittering show.
When it comes to bridal wear of an unusual kind then Anupama Dayal has scored beautifully and will offer great options to the brides of the New Age era who want the perfect look for the most important day of their lives.
NACHIKET BARVE SHOWED HIS TREMENDOUS SKILL FOR AMAZING GARMENT CONSTRUCTION
Nachiket Barve’s inspirations and titles for his collection are always off the beaten track. This time it is called “The Magpie” and one would wonder how a bird so ordinary could be an inspiration for creations.
But Nachiket's line at Lakmé Fashion Week Winter/Festive 2010 did not only have the magpie for inspiration but paintings from Ukraine, Faberge eggs, star motifs from Morocco, fossil imprints, tropical sunsets and decadent times in Marrakesh, Acapulco and Ibiza. With such an impressive lineup of inspirations the colour selection was as wide with carmine, scarlet, burgundy, jade, celadon, and turquoise moving onto plum, sienna, purple, deep coral, cranberry, amethyst, burnt orange, tobacco, old rose, ink blue, green and quetzal all mixed together very cleverly to give perfect assortment.
Fabrics remained Nachiket’s favourItes like the sheer chiffon, georgette; organza, along with crepe, shot silk, resist dyed silk, Lurex and washed Dupion silk. Detailing was intense with graphic resist origami dyeing effects, thread embroideries, 3D appliqués a favorite of Nachiket and lots of hand work with silk and glass beads. Worth noting were the cross stitch in pixilated beading and a mix of various techniques in one garment.
Designing around layered dresses some separates and mixing the fluid with the structured look, Nachiket played with lengths, volumes and shapes with asymmetry in the forefront. Going for some little experimental touches the designer added churidar, kurtas and sari which Nachiket has never attempted before.
The two stunning saris with 3D appliqués on the border, loose shifts with resist origami dyeing effect, one shoulder deep blue chiffon long tube, loosely belted T sleeve covers, gold Lurex with multi appliqué coat, the stylish maroon pink kurta with churidars, and the double breast cover with laser circles edged in gold were sensational. The tropical sunsets were seen in most of the outfits in their blended form, while the pixilated cross stitch beading could be a new trend in embellishments.
Every collection of Nachiket Barve has always been an arresting and intelligent offering and this time “The Magpie” was as memorable and striking as the bird it was named after.
