AMALRAJ SENGUPTA GAVE EYECATCHING DETAILING TO HIS MARTIAL INSPIRED COLLECTION
The inspiration was a little morbid with the title of the collection being “From the Ruins of the World War 2” but the creations brought together the various aspects of that event in history with style and creativity.
There was considerable texturing and staining of dyed fabrics that recreated the visual effect of the war. Ruggedness came in the form of fabrics like silk, wool, cotton, linen, twill, gabardine and blends of wool and cotton suiting to create a very interesting and classic line of clothes.
Featuring an equal number of men’s and women’s wear, Amalraj Sengupta used tie and dye silk for dresses and shirts in earthy tones. Hemlines were asymmetric due to button placement while checks in two tones gave men’s shirts an interesting style twist. The skirt attached to trousers was a great idea and the final blue black corset dress with exaggerated collar and net jacket was striking.
The show presented to war sirens and martial music was a crisp collection that featured the design sensibilities of Amalraj Sengupta in a dramatic manner.
HARANGAD SINGH WORKED WITH INNOVATIVE FABRICS FOR A STYLISH COCKTAIL WEAR LINE
Soft fluid silks in shades of deep shades that ranged from grey, maroon, rust, brown, lots of black created the “Khumor” collection which means deep ecstasy in the Persian. Harangad Singh’s line denoted just that as soft dresses and flowing gowns with interesting construction and drapes floated down the ramp in a dreamlike sequence.
Detailing was restricted to pleating and subtle gathers that rouched the fabrics into feminine shapes. A line of pretty little black dresses will give the cocktail circuit lady a wide choice. Striking and graceful were the coal black wrap silk dress, the grey asymmetric hemline ensemble, the rust long gown with a deep “V” neckline, a clever black pallav drape sleeve outfit and a grey bias swirling cape shrug. The crushed black silk gown and the final embroidered black satin trapeze dress with shimmering hemline was a glamorous end.
It was a very dainty delicate collection that emerged from the design studio of Harangad Singh in pure silk that will please lovers of natural textures.
SHRIVAN NARRESH STAYED TRUE TO THEIR RESORT LOOK FOR THE CONTEMPORARY WOMAN
For the designing duo Srivan Narresh, fashion is a tribute through their label “Shrivannarresh” to women. The “Gynoid” collection at Lakme Fashion Week Winter/Festive 2010 was dedicated to the fantasy women of the future who are alive, impressive, sexy and inspirational. “Gynoid” is the designer duo’s tribute to such women who live on their own terms whether relaxing and frolicking on the beach or zipping around in the past paced city.
Working with colours like coral, weed green and turquoise, the pair blended their shade card to mauves, nudes and added a touch of sultry lace.
Maillots, trousers, pareos, tube and racer back dresses, robes, jackets; corset dresses and maxis all had interesting colour blocking which the designers are well known for. The stylish pochettes and tote bags with the bandana head gear and shoes by Tresmode were neutral to match the resort mood of the collection which was international in concept and style.
Here was a futuristic but very practical collection from Srivan Narresh that will make waves on the fashion scene in the coming season whether on the beach or indoors.
