ATITHI GUPTA ADDED STUNNING TOUCHES TO HER COLLECTION
Her construction is her forte and her clothes had that retro feel. With the French word “Recherche” which means “to look ahead” and driving the designs there were great fabrics like chiffon, wool all texturized and draped to turn into jumpsuits, dresses and jackets.
Keeping the futuristic look with a touch of the past; the colours moved from green, orchid purple, coal, pink, and blue and then on to stark grey and black. The silhouettes were unconventional with structuring and cuts playing a major roll.
Playing with pleats Atithi designed them at the side, back, on shoulders, yoke, centre, stitched them or kept them loose on the garments. The highlight of the show was the angular pleated Capri jumpsuit in silk which was a scene stealer. For some unconventional ensembles that are comfortable but stylish then Atithi Gupta has the right answer.
MANJU AGARWAL DISPLAYED A PERFECTLY STYLISH WOMEN’S WEAR LINE
It was a mix of the Indian and the occident or the east and west as graceful creations came down the ramp from the design board of Manju Agarwal. Using a restraint colour scheme of just black green and beige but moving onto a more adventurous line of fabrics like stretch lycra flatbed and knit the creations were an eclectic line of women's wear which was a great blend of the past and present.
Clalled “Past Continuous” the ‘A’ line, high necks, short dresses were teamed with tights that resembled churidars. The black silk pinafore dress with gold sequins on neck and border, the lame bubble dress, the long sleeve off shoulder knit dress, the gleaming stretch lycra creation and the final printed stand collar, hem and short sleeves cuff dress were good additions.
With two diverse fashion directions there was a quick sway from the Indian to western, which at times nearly overlapped on the ramp to present a pleasant fashionable story by Manju Agarwal’s prêt line which will be a good seller.
SMRITI GUPTA REVIVED THE ROCK N ROLL FASHION ERA WITH HER CREATIONS
It was the revival of the Rock n Roll era in fashion as Smriti Gupta paid homage to the King of Rock n Roll, Elvis Presley with her collection at Lakmé Fashion Week Winter/Fashion 2010. Titled “Jail House Rock”, it was retro fashion at its best, as the look of the late 40s and 50s came alive on the ramp.
Playing with a range of fabrics and finishes, Smriti worked with stripes, checks, drapes and added on tie and dye techniques for quirky dresses, gowns and tunics that were featured in the era of her inspiration.
Adding appropriate accessories to complete the collection look, there was a metallic emphasis with rivets and even Fedora caps with a colour palette that added to the charm of the inspiration. Violets and blues that worked very well for the very sexy feminine clothes, had that distinct funky look, yet with a touch of seduction as the sultry silks and Lycra gave the figure hugging appeal to the garments.
Low crotch pajamas, triangle print sequined jacket, diamond studded embroidered dress, draped knit jacket, the red checked line of drawstring top, jacket and side pleated dress, as well as the glittering poncho and tie n dye jacket all created the mood of the inspiration perfectly.
For the adventurous woman of the 21st century who wants to move into the past but with a contemporary look, then Smriti Gupta’s latest collection which is edgy and funky will give all the right fashion directions.
