Things you didn't know about me...

I love the 1920's and Art Deco Fashion.

I collect fabrics!

Hello,

Today's post is a small collection of some of my 1920's fabrics and pieces.

I'm a hoarder, a collector, as I would call myself. I love old treasures from the past. I collect from different eras but today I' ll share with you some of my 1920's shawls, fabrics and other bits.

I took the opportunity to shoot some items together with this great book called 'Art Deco Fashion', which is so inspirational!

It has pictures from Paul Poiret, Lavin, Vionnet and Chanel to name a few, there is also some hair and make up pictures and some essential information about the 20's fashion in general.

Last week on the Portobello Market, I found this amazing hand stitched glass embroidery piece, on the right hand side, for £2! Which I'll transform into a gorgeous bib necklace :)

I buy these items because they are just beautiful to look at. The intention is to transform them into something in the future...

Falling to pieces... an amazing black glass beaded piece with an exquisite collar made of diamante and clear glass beads. Behind it, a gorgeous two toned pink sequined flapper dress with leaves detail on it.

1920's fashion,roaring20's,art deco fashion,depression

It's beautiful, it's romantic, it's totally couture!

My most treasured possession is this green flapper dress... Attention must be paid on the detailing of the pearls, sequins, glass beads and diamante, all hand stitched. It's a real work of art.

Another passion of mine are those mini flapper handbags. The one on the right hand side is one of a kind, made of a fine net with diamantes attached on it and a beautiful clasp. It's one of my recent acquisitions and it's so glam!

1920's fashion,depression,roaring20's,art deco fashion

I am also hooked on shawls... I have three, all original from the 1920's and in good condition. My tip, is to hang them over the furniture for a boudoir shabby chic look which I totally adore.

The 1920's was all about detail and metallic fabrics. I love them and appreciate how beautiful they are. I have just managed to collect a few pieces, as they are so hard to find and expensive buy.

The dress on the picture is a classic example of how a classic cut goes a long way, with an avant-garde metallic patchwork detail on, it was made in 1925 and yet is so up to date.

1920's fashion,depression,art deco fashion,roaring20's

Pandora's Box!

I could easily have been born as a flapper... as I would love to dress myself with so opulent and amazing fabrics!

In future, I'll show some of my huge victorian lace and beading collection... Maybe you can help me, giving me ideas of what do do with it.

See you soon.

Louise, on Portobello Market.
I love this look, the dress has a gorgeous print and I particularly adore the way she is wearing her scarf as a charming head band. A modern flapper, almost .

London Street style
Maiken, on Portobello Road.
With a tiny and cute bump, she looks gracious in a matching red dress and beret.

London Street style
Shan, near Portobello Road.
A cool look combining many interesting layers, I looove the studded cardigan worn over everything else.

London Street style
Jennifer, on Portobello Market.
Another cute summer dress teamed up with some very cool boots. The boots are totally adorable with some lovely embroidering on them. Unique.

Oxanna, on Portobello Road.
I love the colour of this dress, which still gives us a touch of summer. Add it a pinch of winter with a fur gilet and top it off with a Chloe bag. Great ingredients for Autumn.

See you soon! I promise...

Julien Macdonald London fashion week show s/s 2010- Part 2

Hello,

Hi guys, here as promised loads of pictures from Julien Macdonald's show.

For starters, the venue. The Horticultural building were the show was held was amazing, I'll give you an idea of how it was...

The entrance of the building is very beautiful in 1930's art deco style, a grand big hall which I quickly passed through, led us to this one big room. Once inside, there were high ceilings in a brick building with huge glass panel windows, the room had a lovely old school industrial feel to it. The decoration was like a garden. There were Italian bronze statues and a grass patch where the seats were, the catwalk was a gravel patch which went all over the room, like in Paris in the old days... (a great view for everyone). It was like the models were cat-walking in some beautiful garden in Italy somewhere, feeling the heat of the flashes and the lighting, it really took us there. :)
Luckily there were some strawberry drinks to keep us hydrated!

To follow came a dash of black! Love the detail on the side of the leggings and the structured blazer, killing shoulders but mostly loving the sharp waist.

I also love this dress with a shredded look to it. It has a nude body con dress which goes underneath and it was shown in white/back and white/red variations.

I totally heart this look, the top is so modern and futuristic. I love the way the colours were combined, with different fabrics and textures to it. The model also makes the look, I'm loving this girl and her hair is so cool.

A cute futuristic dress. Mini dresses were very much the look, colours mixing black, white, gray, nudes and red are to invest.

Another LOVE of mine is this dress! Amazing fabric and details on a degrade brocade ribbon over a nude dress complete with beautiful structured shoulders. I want one right NOW!

VMARIE Spring 2010 Preview

Saturday night, Rickie Gonzales hosted a preview of his VMarie, "Us Against the World," Spring 2010 Collection at the Devil's Martini south.

Although many of his fabrics and colors remind me more of fall and winter than of spring, VMarie holds up to their awe-worthy design style in their Spring collection.

My favorite dress hit the runway first. I was too mesmerized to photograph The Stunner (as I'll call it now) for you, but hopefully you can visualize his masterpiece:

The Stunner is a gorgeous, spring white silk mini dress. Simple, thick, tank top straps, followed by a fitted, v-neck torso and an elegant and flirty waste wrap, which is then fastened by a bow in front. The bright white bow flows into a vertical, cupcake layered skirt. Inside each fold lies the only color on the dress--a light blue, hollow circle pattern.

The Stunner is...well, stunning. The inspiring colors and womanly figure captures VMarie's truly unique vision in today's fashion world.

Like I said before, the remainder of his collection is beautifully and wonderfully complicated. Yet, I'm afraid this young designer doesn't fully capture the spring with his winter white dresses and deep purple and maroon details.

Maybe he'll change his mind and make all our Christmas dreams complete by releasing his collection after Phoenix
Fashion Week!

That's all I have for you today. Make sure to get your Phoenix Fashion Week tickets asap! You won't want to miss VMarie or any of the other designers this year.

Stay sweet, Stay beautiful,
E.

Julien Macdonald show S/S 2010 London Fashion week - Part 1

Hello,

I'm back! I have recharged my batteries and I'm ready for my London Fashion week S/S 2010 posts. I'm just so excited and so looking forward to seeing the work of all the designers for next season.

For tonight I 'll be brief, because today was like a little fashion marathon, it's late at night and I am getting quite tired, with half an eye open but still with a smiling face as I had a such cool day.

I must admit I could not sleep much last night because I received this invitation from Mr. Julien Macdonald (himself) for his show earlier today! ;)

JulienMacdonald

I am posting just a few quick snaps as a teaser and soon I'll post some pictures of the show which was AMAZING.

Pretty Portobello got caught on camera for FTV Brazil!

Tonight, I am also having a quick break like the models at the FNO on Matthew Williamson's window. Life is so busy at the moment and tonight I'm just going to relax and have a girly night to myself.

Anyway, back to the models... They were all posing but I caught them in this funny and relaxed moment.

Lady GaGa's Crazy Fashions

Call me crazy.....but I kind of liked the off beat outfit that Lady GaGa wore upon her arrival of the MTV Video Music Awards.

Just that one though...lol.

It had a gothic and slightly Elizabethan era appeal to it that really made it work for the occassion. Neck brace and all. Her other outfits.....yeah, not so great. I did like the white get up she wore for her performance until she smeared fake blood all over it, then it was just disgusting. But even though I constantly look at Lady GaGa every time the camera panned over her and said, "What the f*#$% is she wearing?" I really applaud her for her ability to not care what the hell others think of her and just wear what she feels expresses her whole self and at the same time manage to make herself live art.

I mean afterall... isn't that what fashions all about?

~Danelle Benton-Smith

Fashion DONTS

Now I know many of you are just dying to be fashion forward and love to keep up with the trends, but there's some trends that definitely take fashion a little too far.

There are those fashion trends we see every now and then that we look at and think to ourselves, when was that ever the peak in the fashion era? Let me refresh your mind, the 80s? Whoever thought that was the IT thing for us to bring back was so very wrong. And while I'm at it I can tell you that I feel the same way about Ed Hardy. Anyone who is ANYONE in fashion knows that, Ed Hardy is NOT fashionable.

I can go on to explain why this is such a faux pas, and to start with, it looks like vomit glitter on a shirt, and it has never been in style. The ostentatious trucker hats and hideous christian audiger logos I see everywhere on campus are just for a lack of better words a disgrace to the fashion world.

There is a difference between being fashionable and looking good, and then there's attempting to be fashionable by following some ridiculous trend that has no where to go but the streets of the Bronx. Unfortunately, I've seen about everyone wearing this hideous clothing and just for the record, it looks terrible.

Along with fashion dont's, are the snuggies. Seriously? A fashion show for a bunch of blanket dresses? This is when you know that the fashion world has taken a twisted turn to the point where anything can have a fashion show. I can't wait till doggie couture is the next big thing. Just remember when you see a fashion show for TV accessories, or something super ridiculous, it's just as bad as everything I've mentioned.

Stay fabulous and in style.

Jacque Valle

Dreamland...

Hello,

Coming Friday 18Th is a very exciting day for the fashion calendar. Is the start of London fashion week and also the first day of the sale of Christopher Kane's collection for Topshop. I know everyone is waiting (rather impatiently) for this. Deservedly, the collection is truly amazing.

There are so many items I could easily buy and would love to. Unfortunately, I am not brave enough to join the crowds. I have already fallen in love with the long eyelet mesh dress and the leggings, 2 of my favourite items. I'll have a go on the net, I might be lucky to get them but I am not having high expectations as I know it will be very busy.

I have also made a quick selection of some cool and great items, I love them all too and they certainly would compliment some of your newest and future Topshop buys or fix any one's heart in case you don't get the chance to buy anything due to them selling so fast.

Cash

T shirt, this gorgeous one will cure your heartache on the cheap! Dorothy Perkins £22.

Topshop studded leggings, a great substitute if you don't get the eyelet ones. £28

Cheque

Strong shoulders and a fabulous print which will give you gorgeous curves. River island, £45.

A studded body con, is what I have my eye on. Miss Selfridges, £45.

OMG! Another fab creation by Miss Selfridges £65, this mink quilted coat is so Westwood-ish.

Credit

We all need some sexy studded boots, Office £95.

I want this jacket so badly. Love the colour, the soft leather and the cut is so bad ass. A Rick Owens-ish look from Warehouse, £150.

Party time, look absolutely fabulous with this Balmain-esque inspiration, from Oasis £150.

Prayer

The most perfect accessory to me, which definitely would go with everything I own and more.
I need, I want, I am dying for it... I saw it at the shop and it was love at first sight for sure... Nicholas King, diamante and acrylic bangle. I will ask Father x-mas for one and pray for it every night. Ec one, £235.

See you all soon. xoxox
